I was perusing through my favorite blogs and websites and ran across a great new site. David Greiner, of Campaign Monitor, recently announced the launch of Email-Standards.org. This site is a great resource for anyone trying to get a grasp on how the major email clients, support CSS and other design elements of email. This site acts as a digital advocate for email design standards across the major email clients. The best thing about the site is the fact that it exist. It lets you know that there are other professionals that want and see a need for email marketing design standards. If you get a moment go check out the site and be heard. You may actually learn a thing or two. I did.

  • Headed to New Orleans

    Justin 12:49 am on November 15, 2007 | 0 Permalink | Reply

What up family! I just wanted to let everyone know that I am headed to New Orleans for the weekend. I plan to take as many pictures as possible while I’m there. Hopefully I can get a “State of Katrina” on film, and share with you what I see. The reason I’m headed there is for a wedding, but I would like to take some time to see what else New Orleans has to offer.

Also I wanted to wish Adonna Nicole a very happy 25th birthday. She is one of my best friends that I don’t get to see enough, but I have to show my scorpio sister some love on her day. I hope you enjoy it Adonna. Ok I gotta pack and get out of here. I’ll post pics while in the N.O. if not I’ll do it when I get back.

    Love,
    Justin

Ann and Victor I just wanted to take a minute to tell you about Ann and Victor. Ann and I met almost a year ago when I started my job at an email marketing company here in Atlanta. She, along with her fiancé Victor, have since become very good friend of mine, that I value and appreciate. Ann and Victor embody what I believe to be true love, I am sure they have been through their share of ups and downs, but when Ann is around Victor she glows, and you can see the passion and love in their eyes. On Friday I had the pleasure of sharing one last lunch with them before they will be married next Saturday on November 17th. Ann and Victor have already made their way to New Orleans to wrap up any loose ends. I will be in New Orleans to celebrate next Saturday, and can’t wait to see what I have been hearing about for almost an entire year now. Ann and Victor are expecting over 400 people at their wedding so it will be the largest wedding I have ever attended, by far. I must say that I am intrigued by the shear size and magnitude of the occasion. Anyway I just wanted to share my enthusiasm and utter joy in being witness to such true love. I will be sure to share more pictures once I return, so stay tuned.

This may be a little premature, but Congrats Ann and Victor! May God continue to bless you, in your new life together!

  • Social Networking started with email

Absurd. Right? Well, I recently jotted down some of the reasons I originally started to use email and compared it to the reasons I joined a few social networks. I soon discovered that the fundamental reasons I use social networks, is very similar to the original reasons I use email.

Before social networks, people would share their photos, interest, and information through email, and before that… well let’s not go there. Online photo galleries would soon give people the ability to share photos and experiences with family member and friends and on many occasions the world, extending the amount of people a person could touch with just a few extra clicks of a mouse. Next came personal websites and the concept of a guestbook. Remember those? A guestbook would allow people people to enter their email address, web address, or name and leave a message on your page(Today we call it a wall). These messages, though now visible to anyone, look very similar to basic conversation style emails you would receive from a friend or colleague. Today social network users have; an inbox, where they can carry a dialog through one-to-one messaging, a photo gallery where people can tag, comment and exchange experiences, a wall where people call publicly post comments and more.

I know that this observation is vague, but if you really take a step back and think about the nature of a social network you may realize that it is basically, and I stress the simplicity, the connection of; email, photo galleries, and personal websites with guestbooks. Of course with the addition of widgets, videos, and broadband connections, sharing information, photos and one’s digital-self has becomes easier, and faster, than ever before, but even with the progressive nature of the internet, the fundamental reason to use a social network stems from the same reasons people originally use email. Again I stress the fact that this observation seems fairly simple, and doesn’t take into account the sophisticated nature of a social networks today, but you really have to ask yourself. Is the social network one of the internet’s first Mashups? Just something to think about.
