    5 Reasons I Use Skribit

Ok, I’m just going to put it out there! Writing for a personal blog, consistently, is likely one of the most challenging task of my online life. Between my to-do list, ongoing projects, staying connected with friends and family and answering email, I rarely have the time needed to consistently produce quality content for my blog. Add in the fact that it’s hard to come up with topics and my blog is often a content disaster. Though the first set of excuses are completely on me, there is a solution to the second on. Enter Skribit.  At its core Skribit is a tool that enables you to take suggestions for your blog or website and manage those recommendations in one spot. It also lets you see what the rest of the web is planning to write about, keeping you abreast of trending topics and possibly inspiring your next blog post. Now there are quite a few other features that make Skribit great but I’ll leave that up to the tour. Now the site does a great job of revealing its features but I didn’t want miss the opportunity to tell you why I use Skribit!

5 Reasons Why I Use Skribit

    1. It’s really helpful- Though I only have a few hundred unique visitors per month, the suggestion box seems to be a place for the “regulars” to voice their opinions about what I should write about next.
    2. Easy to use – I literally installed the Skribit widget in about 30 seconds. Once I did, I immediately shared it with friends and family to see if there was anything I should write about (since I cover such a wide range of topics). Another idea is to add a link to your Skribit blog profile into the signature of your emails and/or email marketing messages.
    3. Flexible – I imagine that the team over at Skribit’s initial idea was for bloggers, but the service can really be used for just about anything. In just a few minutes you can integrate it on websites, Facebook profiles (tricky but doable), corporate blogs or any other site you may create original content for. I suppose it’s up to you.
    4. The team – Paul Stamatiou, Lance and the rest of the Skribit team are great people. Lance has given me quite a few pointers on a couple of my startups and Paul is just a good guy to know in the Atlanta (always in the know).
    5. It’s an Atlanta startup – Skribit is an Atlanta based startup and is one of a handful of startups still in active development from Atlanta’s Startup Weekend. Though I believe you can build a great startup anywhere, I do believe in supporting Atlanta based startups, so if not for the other 4 reasons I would support them because they’re based in Atlanta alone.

Well have you signed up yet? If not check it out and let me know your thoughts. Oh and feel free to suggest something… my Skribit widget is located on the left.

My top 3 reasons you need to see Precious on November 6th (No spoilers)

Yesterday I had the privilege of seeing an advanced screening of the movie Precious and I have just one word to describe the film. Amazing. Aside from being a great movie (fantastic storyline, great cinematography, and fantastic acting) there are 3 other reasons why you should see this movie.

    1. Truth – This film doesn’t sugar-coat anything! It’s is a pure, unadulterated story about the struggles of a young woman who’s past, and present are filled with pain, suffering and bondage. It is her desire to express true love for her children that sets her on the path of self-discovery and a subsequent release from bondage. This film reveals the truth about our society and though it isn’t perfect the raw imperfections are what strike you the most.
    2. Accountability – Once you see this film your perspective changes and your desire to see change within your own community should become a greater priority. The days of sitting around pretending young men and women, like Precious, don’t experience such sociological atrocities is no longer an option. You become accountable and are charged with the responsibility of holding your government, church, community leaders and families accountable as well. You will begin to understand that change is a responsibility not an option.
    3. Impact – Precious reaches deep into our society’s soul to shed light on some of the most controversial, and least discussed, social ills of our times. While it may be a story to some, for others it gives a glimmer of hope as they search for their own truth and deliverance. Precious touches your soul and makes it nearly impossible to not pray about, talk about, or write about ways to turn the page and move our society into a new chapter.

I could go on and on but I’ll just say that “Precious” has the ability to change peoples lives. On November 6th take a moment to empower yourself, your family and our communities. You simply don’t want to miss this!

    Good morning... Mr. West...

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all of my readers for sticking with me while I go through some transitions in my life. As you can probably tell, I have been extremely busy and hope to get back to writing more often soon.

On the lighter side of things I did get a chance to see Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Rihanna and N.E.R.D. this past weekend and I can honestly say that the show was spectacular. Lupe brought the swag, and Rihanna was pretty (of course), N.E.R.D rocked the house and probably got some new fans, and of course there is Mr. West. Kanye’s gift was a dazzling one-man-show, with a single cameo from Lupe, that told a very creative and imaginative story. His performance was theatrical to say the least, as he told the story of space traveler and his quest to get home. His journey took you through space and time as he presented the best of the best, performing songs from all three albums. The thing that touched me the most however, was his tribute to his Mother that fit seamlessly into the show just how much energy and emotion he puts into his music and craft. Regardless of what the press and media may say, Mr. West you get an A+ from me. Bravo!

Oh and before I forget I must tell you that the concert was star-studded. It was clear that some of Kanye’s colleagues are fans as well as; Mary J, Musiq, Bow Wow, Chris Brown, Jermaine Dupri, Chaka Zulu, and the great Quincy Jones were all there to see the show. I was told there was others, but it’s clear that everyone was there to see Kanye.

Well that’s it for now and my apologizes on the delay. I hope that everyone is doing well and if you went to the concert and want to share pics, please send them along and I will post them here.

    Peace,
    Justin

    UPDATED: Black People Don't Read

As you may recall, I recently wrote a post about the observation that black people don’t read and unfortunately, to some degree it’s true. Though I remain optimistic about this observation, and would hope that this will change, I must admit that I didn’t necessarily supply a solution. Well have no fear, a solution is here. A friend of mine sent me a link to a pretty cool website and to be honest, I think it is a great tool to use for someone looking to make reading a more social event. Shelfari.com is a website that allows you to share books that you have enjoyed reading with others, particularly your friends or people within your network. The other cool thing is that it allows you to recommend books to your friends, which brings the traditional “book club” element online. Of course the service allow you to search by author, ISBN, or subject, but you can also search for subject matter in a huge tag cloud which are very useful and creative web 2.0 element. This cloud also allows you to see what other people find interesting and maybe spark you interest enough to see what all the fuss is about. My initial reaction is this service is great and hopefully will be the start of something bigger. Of course this is just my opinion, why don’t you check it out, and come back and tell me what you think.

    STUDIO 8

    Justin 1:51 pm on August 9, 2005 | 0 Permalink | Reply

WOW it has been 4 months since my last post. It’s amazing how time goes by… but it makes since I suppose. One of the reasons I decided to post today was because of the latest announcement from macromedia. STUDIO 8 is here. I personally am excited and can’t wait to see what Macromedia has done with the software particularly Dreamweaver. They have already made the software for anyone who can type up a Word document. I can’t wait to see the workflow atmosphere and new features in Flash. I guess we will see. Well I have have some new projects that I am working on and will add them to my portfolio soon.

    PEACE
